Mayor of San Marcos
It has been an honor to serve you as Mayor for four terms, beginning in 2018 until now and previously as a council member 1996-2002 and 2014-2018. As a Rattler and Bobcat, I am invested in our community. I am known for my integrity, honesty, and commitment to San Marcos.
I am not running for Mayor again. I am running to continue my service as a councilmember. My experience in all aspects of city government provides perspective as we face new challenges. Since most of our council is relatively new, my institutional knowledge will help provide continuity, informed decision-making, and effective leadership as San Marcos grows.
I approach solving issues by collecting data, asking questions, listening to all sides, and collaborating with others. I ask council members, staff, and the public for opinions and expertise. We are fortunately to have so many people with skills and expertise who are willing to share in order to keep San Marcos a great place to live. I seek compromise with the council and the public.

Priorities San Marcos a great place to live. Let’s keep it that way!
I will continue to:
- Protect our river, environment, and neighborhoods.
- Participate in economic development opportunities that bring us good-paying jobs. Not every company seeks incentives for their projects but when asked, we analyze the project to determine the additional tax base dollars they can bring to us, water use, how many new jobs, and do those jobs provide a living wage or better.
- Manage growth so that there are housing options and opportunities for our residents. I voted for our Land Development Code that allows for a variety of housing types and denser neighborhoods which can make housing more affordable for homeowners and renters and provide transit options.
- Make workforce development efforts a priority so residents can learn/upgrade skills to qualify for better-paying jobs.
- Support the city’s plans to maintain and improve the systems, streets, sidewalks, electric lines and pipes that are already in place plus planning for future maintenance of the infrastructure installed by developers. We have a 10-year Capital Improvements Plan that has identified and prioritized existing and future needs and projects.
